MR. AMERICAN CONTEST
One of the biggest happenings coming up this month is the Mr. America Contest, in Akron, Ohio. The American Hotel and Restaurant is one of the hottest nightspots for the Akron gay community, and just last month, celebrated its first anniversary. The Mr. American Contest is one of a series of promotional events intended to place the American at the top of the list as far as gay clubs are concerned.
All applicants are welcome, and if anyone out there is interested, you better get in to talk to the management. The contest promises to be a real hot one, with a grand prize of an expenses paid trip to New York City, and that ain't hay! The Master of Ceremonies, by the way, will be that goodlooking man that was on the cover of the November magazine.

The American Hotel and Restaurant has recently opened a smaller bar area, called the Eagle's Nest While not as large as the standard bar that opened the American, it by no means is any less spectacular. One of the outstanding features of the American is its taste in decorating, and layout of the bar. The owner, whose brainchild the American is, is justifiably pleased with the progress of the club, both in construction
and decor, and
within the community as a service. He does not see the American as a way of making money and states quite clearly, that the club has not to date made a profit, in that every cent that has been profit, has been reinvested in the improvement of the club.
The current layout of the club is not the finished product, but simply a step in the development of what promises to be one of the finest nightclubs in gay history. The future holds a dance floor three times the current size, a sound studio with a D.J., the Banquet room will become a Pub for fast food service, and the current main bar will be moved to make room for carpeted lounges following the manner of Le Jardin, in New York.
Promotional events, such as the slave auction coming up in December, will provide drawing cards for the American, which soon will be the number one nightspot in the area.
